DIVERSIFYING SUCCESS

AT DUKE UNIVERSITY

OUR STORY

The Duke Business of Retail Society (DBRS) was conceived by a visionary trio: Sophia Yassinger, Nina Venter, and Gabrielle Perry. Inspired by a shared passion to amplify representation and diversify the creative landscape at Duke University, they sought to challenge the conventional career paths that have long dominated the campus culture. The founding team was motivated by a desire to inspire creativity on Duke’s campus, and redefine what success can look like.

Hosting pre-professional events and workshops, DBRS empowers its members to engage with the unconventional, fostering an environment where students can explore careers beyond the traditional idea of “success”. The club stands as a testament to their belief that creative industries offer a viable and successful path for those daring enough to venture beyond the well-trodden paths of Duke alumni.

WHO WE ARE

We are a collective of diverse, innovative, and dedicated Duke students united in our passion for business, retail and consumer goods, and above all, creativity. Our organization brings together individuals from various backgrounds and academic interests, each contributing unique skills and perspectives to the planning and execution of educational and community-building events such as panels, workshops, and networking sessions. We promote discovery and facilitate professional development and placement in the retail and consumer goods industries.

Our team is composed of multiple specialized committees, each dedicated to a specific aspect of bringing our vision to life. From organizing engaging speaker events to designing visually engaging marketing materials and managing the essential finance and legal tasks, every member is crucial to our success.

DBRS is more than just a club; it's a greater community and a platform for connection, learning, and inspiration.
